Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
World Health Organization, 1948.

Some sixty-four years on, with advances and breakthroughs in the field of medical science and technology, those words are no less true than when they were first said. Research has made us know more than we have ever known. Vaccines and drugs are hitting the shelves faster than we can consume them. In Nigeria, access to qualitative medical care is hampered by a lot of factors- one of these will be the spread and ease of access to affordable healthcare needs where and when it is needed.

This terrain, like any other does require grit and a determination to succeed. Hygeia has successfully done this for more than 2 decades. It has also found a way to get actively involved in the drive to improve the health of People living with HIV/ AIDS by implementing a free, comprehensive Anti-Retro-viral Treatment programme across all 36 states of Nigeria. Their work has seen them expose medical personnel to skills aimed at preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, providing Pharmacy services and the proper handling of related equipment in the Laboratory.

This is one of the many ways that lives are being impacted not just in Lagos, but across the country.
